HOWARD HART UNTITLED

MOONLIGHT ON THE GANGES

I am reading
         rewriting
a poem on Jazz and Snow White
In case you don't know
she was the only wife of Charlie Parker
Dizzy gave her for Christmas present
                       an ebony harmonium

Bird was irate
He and Dizzy and Snow White
went to see "Going My Way"
in the dubbed Sacandinavian version
at the Oleg Theatre (now called Cinema)

Snow
as she was called by close friends
Took a small day gig
                                         in Toffenetti's
Many's the time I have heard her disagree
with this world of pie a la mode
But she
           walking home
enjoyed the lights of our odd town
